All About Mrs. Rateni
MY BACKGROUND
Hi, I'm Kelsie! I am originally from suburbs of Chicago. I grew up and completed all my schooling up north and graduated from Elmhurst College, where I happened to meet my husband, Rob. He is originally from Sarasota and the reason I ended up moving to this beautiful place!
MY EXPERIENCE
My teaching career has been spent right here in Manatee County. I have taught at three different schools. I have experience teaching grades 3, 4, and 5. I also spent time providing reading remediation for 2nd graders. I have my Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education K-6 and a Masters Degree in Curriculum & Instruction.
MY FAMILY
I am a mom to two of my own Harvey Sharks. In fact, I took several years off from teaching when my daughter was born, and it wasn’t until she entered Kindergarten here at Harvey that I started to inch my way back into the classroom through subbing and being a small-group teacher. It feels great to be back and have my own classroom again!
As a family, we love to be outside exploring new places, go on bike rides, relax by the pool, and keep up with sporting practices and games (currently soccer & flag football!)
I also have a dog named Ava. She is a Shiba Inu and despite getting up there in age, she still loves to run around in the yard with the kids every once in a while when she’s not basking in the sun.
MY PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION
I believe that education should not only impart knowledge but also foster a love for learning, critical thinking, and personal growth. I strive to design lessons that captivate students' interests and cater to diverse learning styles in a classroom environment that focuses on collaboration, kindness, respect, and individual goal-setting.
By establishing clear expectations, maintaining consistent routines, and fostering an environment of mutual respect and empathy, I believe students are more willing to take risks and engage deeply in their learning.

Hobbies: I LOVE all things interior & exterior design. Making a house a home and using creativity makes my heart happy.
